Explore the wonder of nature in the middle of urban Los Angeles!
Local bird expert Bob Shanman leads a bird-focused tour of the greater-Ballona Wetlands, including Del Rey Lagoon, Dockweiler Beach, the breakwater and jetty, and the Ballona Creek estuary. Bring binoculars, scopes, tripods, and cameras. This tour is intended for birders and birders-in-training who are interested in learning more about our local birds from one of our foremost local experts.
The tour is typically 2 - 2.5 hours; however, if the birds are out, the tour can last up to 4 hours. Participants can leave as their schedules permit.

Registration: Registration is required. You must also sign the digital waiver.
Ages: Activities are recommended for ages 7 and up. Youths 16 and under should be accompanied by an adult.
What to wear: Close-toed shoes are required! We recommend dressing in weather-appropriate layers, along with a hat. Long pants are also recommended to protect against occasional prickly plants.
What to bring: Bring binoculars, scopes, tripods, and cameras. Bring a full water bottle to stay hydrated. There are no water fountains on-site. Also, sunscreen, bug spray, and a snack if needed.
Arrive on time: It’s a walking tour; make sure to arrive on time so you don’t get left behind.
Covid-19 Protocols: We recommend that participants comply with applicable public health COVID-19 safety guidelines.
