  • Local Beaches, Ballona Creek, and anywhere there is trash! (map)

Ballona Creek and surrounding areas need a helping hand... yours!

Roll up your sleeves to help the Friends clean up the last coastal wetland in Los Angeles. Did you know that 130 square miles of storm drains flow into Ballona Creek? Gutter trash from as far away as North Hollywood can end up right here! The time and effort you put in to clear out debris means less trash in the wetlands, on our beaches, and in the open ocean.

What to do: With your household, go out an collect as much trash as you can, let us know how much you collected by filling out this form, and dispose of it in a proper trash receptacle. Please follow social distancing, sanitizing, and all other Los Angeles County and CDC guidelines to stay safe!

Time: Dawn to Dusk - otherwise, whenever is convenient for you and your household.

Locations: Toes Beach, Venice Beach, Dockwiller Beach - pretty much any Beach. Ballona Creek - west of the Ecological Reserve gate and out along the Jetty. You can also do a clean up in your local park, along sidewalks, in parking lots, and anywhere else trash collects so that it can be stopped before getting to the wetlands and Pacific Ocean!

Ages: Activities are recommended for ages 7 and up. Youths 17 and under should be accompanied by an adult.

What to wear: Close-toed shoes are required! We recommend dressing in weather-appropriate layers that you don’t mind getting a bit dirty, along with a hat.

What to bring: Your household only, a mask, disposable gloves, and a bag or bucket to collet trash. Bring a full water bottle to stay hydrated and snacks in case you get hungry from being so awesome!

Thank you for volunteering!
We literally couldn’t do it without you!
